… Jag Sanchez bolted upright in his bed, gasping for air. As he caught his breath, he stared at the wall ahead, not realizing he was sweating but very aware that every part of him was trembling. He ran a hand over his face and shut his eyes tightly.
That voice. That voice had been haunting his dreams for the last nine months, since . . .
He looked at his phone beside his bed and yelped when he saw the time. Late for school, again. He leapt out of bed and stumbled around his room as he got ready then grabbed his bag and flew down the stairs toward the front door, not bothering to stop for breakfast. How was it that he lived only five minutes from the high school but was constantly late, even when he put his alarm on?
As it states, this book can be read as a standalone, though it is a sequel. I read it as the first book and I must say, it is completely true. I never felt lost or as though I had missed important details. I loved the book and am actually keen, not only to read the rest of the series, but also to pop back and read the first book. I want to know all the details about how they became what they are.
This book really is the perfect match for Percy fans and those who have read Paul Durham’s books. It is written in a way that it appeals to us adults, but it also riveting for YAs as well. I found myself unable to book the book, well my iPad, down. I was drawn into the perfectly created characters and the great blend of action, sci-fi and adrenaline. These kids are real heroes and they have only just started to realise their potential. I can’t wait to see where it takes them in future books.
I found that the characters were really well written. They have great personalities, which are strong and light-hearted enough to get them through the fact that they cannot remember what happened in the last year. As they gain those memories, they become even stronger, more courageous and the depth of their intellect starts to show. I like reading as they interact both with each other and with those around them, as I really think they are created as great people.
I loved the pace of this book. It is perfect of YAs – action-packed, fast-paced, but with enough detail to give them something to really get into and latch onto. I can see this series swiftly becoming a favourite among that age group. I also think the pace does a lot for adults. Though the story doesn’t have as many intricate details as some sci-fi, adult reads would, it doesn’t lack in great action and well-written storyline.
Overall, I was very impressed with this read. As mentioned, I plan to read the rest of the series and do hop to pop back and read the first book. I really want to see how they became what they are. I highly recommend this to fans of the above mentioned and for young readers who like action and suspense, mixed with a bit of fantasy and sci-fi.

In her early teens, she began crafting intriguing new worlds and conjuring up characters who came alive with the flick of her wand… err… pen. With the publication of her first novel in the Aegis League Series during her senior year of high school, she was surprised by the abundance of time that magically appeared right after graduation. She plans to use this newfound resource to expand the arc of the series. Hello, Bri here! I'm the artist behind Natural Bri - Pursuits of Life. This blog originally started when I moved to the UK to go to uni. I was lucky enough to meet the love of my life, and now husband, Gareth; in my university caving club. After a year of being close friends, we got engaged in the 'crazy' way that describes our life together: a 19 hour caving trip of insane proportions- involving some mental traversing, tears (scared and happy), numbness and a lot of mud; culminating in my husband going to one knee and explaining that's why we HAD to make the end. 4 years, and many adventures later we were married. He is my rock. We can't quite say we are the opposites attract flavour, we are exactly the same- copies of each other who only work when together. Together we are exploring the depths and heights of the world, and life.
